Why is a recall/recare appointment necessary?
Tissues and bone
Over time, your mouth goes through considerable changes in the same way as the rest of the body. There will be tissue shrinkage and the loss of the underlying bone on which your denture rests. Since your dentures do not change, they may no longer fit like they once did.
Oral cavity
Having an annual (oral) exam may prevent or help detect the existence of (oral) cancer or other abnormal conditions.
Medical or dental history
Updating your medical and dental history is an important aspect in maintaining quality denture treatment.
Fit and bite of your existing denture
Dentures that have significant wear can cause improper fit and bite which can lead to other problems. It can affect your ability to chew, speak and your overall appearance.
The integrity of your dentures
At Saskatoon Denture Clinic we will check for cracks, chips, scratches, and worn or loose teeth.
What to expect during your recall/recare visit:
- update your medical and dental history
- intraoral examination
- check the integrity of your denture
- check the aesthetics, stability and the bite
- discuss treatment options available to you based on your needs
- review of oral hygiene procedures and denture care
At Saskatoon Denture Clinic, there is no charge for a recall appointment.
