The Denture-Making Process
A Step by Step Approach to Creating Your Denture
At Saskatoon Denture Clinic, creating a denture is a detailed process that combines careful planning, precise measurements, and collaboration between you and your denturist. Each step is important in achieving a denture that provides a natural appearance, comfortable fit, and reliable function.
1. Complimentary Consultation & Treatment Planning
Before beginning the denture process, we take the time to understand your individual needs and discuss your options. This appointment allows you to ask questions, learn about different treatment approaches, and make an informed decision about the best path forward.
There is no fee for consultations. We understand that choosing a denture treatment plan is an important decision, and our goal is to provide the information you need to feel confident moving forward.
2. Preliminary Impressions
The first step is taking preliminary impressions of your mouth. These impressions allow us to create accurate study models of your oral structures and help us begin planning the design of your denture.
3. Final Impressions and Bite Registration
Using information from the preliminary impressions, a custom tray is created to capture a more precise impression of your gums and supporting tissues.
At this appointment, we also record important information about your bite, jaw relationship, and facial support. This helps determine the proper positioning of the teeth to support comfort, function, speech, and a natural-looking smile.
During this stage, we will also discuss tooth selection, including the size, shape, and colour of the denture teeth. At Saskatoon Denture Clinic, we use quality denture teeth, including Ivoclar Phonares II and Vitapan Excell, which are selected to complement each patient’s individual features. (should we have a link on this page to these teeth?)
4. Try-In Appointment
Before your denture is completed, the teeth are placed in wax so you can preview your new smile.
This appointment allows you and your denturist to evaluate:
- The appearance of your smile
- Tooth size, shape, and colour
- Lip support and facial appearance
- Speech and comfort
- Bite and tooth positioning
Your feedback is an important part of this stage. We encourage you to ask questions and discuss any changes you would like before the denture is finalized.
5. Final Denture Delivery
Once the appearance, fit, and function have been carefully reviewed, your denture is completed and delivered.
6. Adjustments and Follow-Up Care
Adjustments are a normal part of adapting to a new denture. As your mouth becomes accustomed to your new appliance, minor areas of pressure or discomfort may occur.
Contact our office if you experience any concerns so your denturist can adjust your dentures to improve comfort and fit.
Ongoing follow-up care is an important part of maintaining the function and comfort of your dentures as your mouth naturally changes over time.
At Saskatoon Denture Clinic, we believe the best denture outcomes come from combining quality materials, precise techniques, and patient involvement throughout the entire process.
